New Product Introduction

Some people use the term ‘new product introduction’, NPI for short, synonymously with the term ‘new product development’ (NPD), i.e. they mean exactly the same thing. See the page on new product development for more information.

Others mean the ‘back end’ of the development process, usually with a marketing focus, namely the steps that are taken to introduce the product into the market place at a launch event and the process of preparing for the marketing launch.

It could also be taken to mean the introduction into manufacturing of a new product.

It does not really matter which interpretation you use, as long as there is consistency across the company and with your suppliers.
