Product Management is the art of managing products.
More specifically it is the management of the product strategy and the development, marketing and sale of a product or set of products throughout the product life cycle. It encompasses the broad set of activities required to get the product to market, support it during its life and oversee its withdrawal, obsolescence, and replacement.
It is therefore a multi-faceted role with the Product Manager in the centre orchestrating the requirements of the customer and the business together with the technological pressures.
Typically the product manager is in charge of the product throughout its life cycle.
He will probably issue the Product Brief for a new product. He may thern manage the product development process himself, or a separate person will be appointed to be the Project Manager.
