Technology Readiness Level (TRL)
One of the problems with new technology is deciding when it is ready to be used on a production programme.
To help with this various organisations use a scale of Technology Readiness levels (TRL). Invented by NASA in the 1970s and since used by other organisations, mainly defence and aerospace, this helps to define what is meant be ‘ready’. Here is one used in the defence industry.
